MAJOR CAUSES OF TYRE PROBLEMS IN NIGERIA.

MAJOR CAUSES OF TYRE PROBLEMS IN NIGERIA.

Many people have been wondering what could be the cause of the incessant tyre burst accidents on our roads.

The major cause is that we inflate too much pressure on our tyres. How did I know?

I was at a vulcanizer workshop to check the tyres conditions, and decided to change some of my tyres. When I heard a man asking the vulcanizer the recommended Air pressure for the tyres, He said 50. He said alright, he should inflate it to 50 all round.

I took my time to investigate the original tyre pressure, I found out the pressure inside was too much. I reminded him of issue of the minister that died on the road due to a burst tyre and wonder what could have happened, because nobody could imagine a minister would be traveling with expired tyres as many would think is the major cause of tyre bursts.

A man (lived in US for many years) said that the major cause of tyre burst is that we inflate too much pressure in our tyres, he reminded us that each car has a specific recommended tyre size and pressure clearly written on it by the manufacturers.

He was surprised and begged me to come and show him where it’s written on his car. To his greatest surprise, it’s by the driver’s door which he enter everyday without noticing it.* You can equally see it on the tyre it self . it will be written like ( 36psi ).

By the time we checked, the recommended pressure for his tyres is 35 and I just travelled with tyres on a pressure of 50.

I took him round my compound and showed him that of the cars (which included a jeep and a sienna), and the highest was 38. Some were even 32.

I further to explained to him, that tyres are made of rubber and expand at a high temperature. So, when you are travelling in the afternoon when the asphalt on the road is hot, the tyres tend to expand. If the pressure on the tyre is too much and wouldn’t accommodate the expansion, a burst is likely to happen at that time.

Please check the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle and others you know.

Other reasons that might lead to tyre burst include pot holes, rough driving, braking abruptly, over loading etc.

If a driver is not cautious of the road by running into all potholes on the road might cause a lot of dangers to the tyre.

Wear and tear will set in and eventually burst the tyre. So drivers so make sure they are very careful to avoid potholes and burst tyre.

Rough driving is another factor that usually burst tyres. When you are over speeding and running into bumps or climbing small or big stones on the road without paying to wear and tear it might cause. Then you are giving way for tyre burst.

Braking abruptly and over loading are another factors to tyre burst. We need to check our tyres conditions regularly to avoid unwanted surprises.

We shouldn’t over load the vehicle also to avoid accident in case tyre burst occur. Less speed will give you a better chance to managed the tyre burst and manoeuvre gradually until the vehicle stops.
